When you come to Corolla for your summer vacation, you’re pressing the pause button on boredom. Every day spent on our beaches brings something new to experience. While people come here to relax on our beautiful shores and watch the Wild Mustangs playing in the surf, there’s as much to enjoy here beyond the sand.
We’ve talked about the many attractions and events at Historic Corolla, plus all the fun to be had on the water. If you want a day off from the beach and you’ve already explored our county’s colorful history, why not set aside some time for the other adventures we offer?
Corolla Adventure Park
This is no ordinary obstacle course. Corolla Adventure Park offers multiple levels of climbing. Reservations are recommended to book a course through the challenging bridge crossings and zip line rides. Guests of all ages are welcome to take on the towers. Visit the park’s website for height and weight requirements.
Feel the need to let off some steam? Guests twelve and up can enjoy the park’s ax throwing lanes. Book in advance and by the hour for an afternoon of spirited target practice.
Mini-Golf
How’s your putting game? Beach vacations and miniature golf go well together, and in Corolla you have your choice of courses to test your skills. See how many holes-in-one you can achieve:
- Corolla Adventure Golf – Corolla Adventure Golf is home to three themed 9-hole courses. You’ll find a miniature version of Corolla here with a smaller-scale lighthouse and Whalehead!
- Pirates Island Golf – Located in Corolla Light Town Center, this 18-hole course offers challenging holes through pirate ships, caves, and waterfalls.
- Mini Golf at Corolla Water Sports – Enjoy a serene putting experience on a private island with beautiful water views.
- Corolla Grass Course – This 20-hole miniature course features all-natural grass for an authentic putting experience.
Corolla Raceway
Satisfy your need for speed! Corolla Raceway, near Timbuck II Shopping Center, offers a curving go-kart track with single and double-seat racers. Be sure also to try out the gas-powered bumper cars and the video arcade. Visit their website for height and driving requirements.
Mainland Fun
The off-beach fun isn’t limited to Corolla. Mainland Currituck County is home to a variety of farm markets with the best in local produce, sweets, and other surprises. At Digger’s Dungeon you can visit the legendary Grave Digger monster truck, and if you still feel the need to cool off you can spend a day on the thirty rides, slides and other attractions at the H2OBX waterpark.
If you can’t get enough of the Wild Mustangs, plan a visit to the Betsy Dowdy Equine Center on Wednesdays for Mustang Mornings. You’ll see rescued horses up close and learn more about the herd, descended from the horses of colonial Spanish explorers.
After you’ve checked off all these items on your ultimate Corolla vacation list, make sure you have the free Corolla OBX App on hand for more ideas and new events happening in our county.
