Soon, we will be experiencing cooler temperatures, lessening summer crowds and will be primed for many more wonderful beach days on the Currituck Outer Banks. It’s no secret that fall features beautiful beach days while bringing warmer ocean temperatures and frequent sightings of porpoises playing in the waves.
Even if you and your loved ones have already spent some time this summer on the beaches of the Outer Banks, the time is now to book your fall getaway. The fall has several long weekends that bode well for planning another stay at the beach. The conditions are great for some surf fishing, shell collecting, walks along the shoreline and seeing all of the birds preparing for their departures further south.
The cooler weather also brings some of our favorite seafood seasons, including tuna, oysters, shrimp and clams. You can sample some of these fare favorites at many of the restaurants on the Currituck Outer Banks.

- Take a tour of the Whalehead mansion and walk the beautiful grounds
- Visit the Maritime Museum and learn more about the rich history of the fishing community
- Rent paddle boards or kayaks to experience the Sound and its residents up close
- Walk the shoreline to search for beach treasures
- Sample the famous fares of the restaurants in Corolla and make it fun! There are so many delicious options to try from our farm fresh vegetables to the seafood to the desserts!
- Set up a family Olympics Day! You can set up your course on the beach and create your own fun events, such as balancing an egg on a spoon and racing 10 yards or Spikeball championships. So many options and fun for your whole group!
- Find a fun souvenir to remember your trip. Whether it’s a book, art print, tchotchke, coffee mug or a photo, find something to remind you of the wonderful memories from your trip.
- Play a round of mini golf
- Visit the Audubon Sanctuary to explore the trails and surround yourself in nature.
