Important Beach Parking Info
Planning to park on the 4×4 beaches in Carova? Here’s what you need to know:
Permits are required the last Saturday in April through the first Saturday in October.
Staying in Carova? Your rental company or property owner will provide your parking passes.
Staying in Corolla but want to park on the 4×4 beach? You’ll need to purchase a permit in advance through our website. These are sold on a first-come, first-served basis and are valid for one week.
No permit = possible fines! Be sure to get yours ahead of time to avoid any beach-day hiccups.
Beach Driving Tips: Stay Safe & Have Fun
Driving on sand isn’t the same as cruising on asphalt, so take a moment to review our Beach Driving Tips before hitting the shore. Use 4-wheel drive (4WD) when entering the ramp and
maintain a slow, steady speed. If your vehicle is not equipped with 4WD, do not attempt to drive
on the beach. And remember— air down your tires! Click here for more driving tips.
Pack Smart for a Full Day of Fun
Before heading out for a sun-soaked beach day, make sure you bring:
Plenty of sunscreen – The beach breeze can be deceiving, but the sun is strong!
Lots of water – Stay hydrated while soaking up those gorgeous views.
Trash bags – Help keep our beaches pristine by packing out everything you bring in.
Respect for our wild horses – They may wander down to the water, so admire them from a distance and never attempt to feed or approach them.
Leave Only Footprints
Before you pack up at the end of the day, please:
Fill in any holes and level sandcastles – This keeps the area safe for both people and wildlife.
Take all trash and personal items with you – Let’s keep the beach just as beautiful as you found it.
Remember that the beach parking area becomes a travel lane in the evenings and early mornings – Clearing the way ensures safe passage for everyone.
We Can’t Wait to Welcome You!
Whether you’re coming for the wild horses, the waves, or just a little relaxation, we know 2025 will be another unforgettable summer on The Northern Outer Banks. See you on the sand!
