Restored in 1992 to its original glory, the Whalehead is open for tours. Inside, you’ll see Mrs. Knight’s Steinway piano and petite Art Nouveau “grandmother” clock, as well as many elite-at-the-time amenities including original Tiffany glass sconces, corduroy walls, cork flooring, Otis elevator and a a cast-iron safe within an ornate, marble-topped sideboard. Please note, there are no refunds on specialty guided tours.

Legends, Lore and Ghost Tours

Important Information for all who are making reservations… please read:

• Plan to arrive by 6:45pm, the tour begins promptly at 7pm. Anyone arriving after 7pm will NOT be admitted.
• The cost is $15 per person and is non-refundable.
• Advance reservations are required.
• Duration is about 45min-1hour and is not appropriate for children under 10.
• Please bring a flashlight for your group.
• Be aware that stair climbing is necessary during the tour.
• We will be doing two tours simultaneously and will do our best to keep your party in the same tour group, but we cannot guarantee it.

Don’t forget to stop by the Maritime Museum and the Outer Banks Center for Wildlife Education for other fun indoor and outdoor activities.

MORNING GHOST TOUR

June 16th through September 11th, 2025
(No tour June 18^th due to Under the Oaks)

Offered by reservation at 9:00am Mondays and Wednesdays @ 45-55 minutes
$15 per person & child friendly
Limit of 15 people per day

The Morning Ghost Tour is a lighter, less in-depth version of our Legends, Lore & Ghost Tour.
The Morning Ghost Tour is by reservation only on Mondays and Wednesdays from June 16th through September 11th, 2025 at 9:00am. The tour is recommended for families with younger children; however, not for any individuals that may be frightened of the dark, or those who have difficulty navigating the house with only candlelight.
~Reservations are required. We will begin accepting reservations for Morning Ghost Tours starting on May 1^st please call 252-453-9040.

Tiffany Tiles

June 16th through September 11th, 2025
(No tour June 18^th due to Under the Oaks)

Offered by reservation only at 9:00am Tuesdays & Thursdays @ 45-55 minutes
$10 per child
Ages 6-12
Limit of 10 children per day

Our Tiffany Tiles kid’s activity is a salute to the creator of many lovely fixtures in Whalehead…Louis Comfort Tiffany was a mosaic artist long before he mastered the craft of glass
fabrication. This activity is an opportunity for kids ages 6-12 to explore the technique of working with small pieces of glass to create a larger image. Pieces of tumbled safely glass are adhered to a take home tile using the basic principles of mosaic artistry. Join us as we challenge young artists to look at composition in a different way and find their inner Tiffany!
~Reservations are required.  We will begin accepting reservations for the Tiffany Tiles activity starting on May 1^st please call 252-453-9040.

Candlelight Tours

ALL TOURS ARE SOLD OUT FOR 2024 

Starting October 1st, the Candlelight Christmas Tour tickets will be going on sale in person at Whalehead or over the phone at 252-453-9040.

The 2024 Whalehead Candlelight Christmas Tour dates are Nov. 29 & 30 and Dec. 6, 7, 13, 14, 20 and 21st.  The cost of the tour is $20 and the start time is 5:00.  Due to the popularity of this tour, advanced reservations are required.  Please call 252-453-9040 to reserve your spot.  Tours are non-refundable.
